Meet Our Coaches

Coach Henry Kon, is also the president of our organization. He wrestled at Oswego High School in New York under Hall of Fame Coach Elmer Akley. He also wrestled at Cayuga College in Auburn, New York. This will be Henry’s 11th year coaching with WCWC.

Coach Heath Elder is also Vice-President of our organization. He wrestled in Tucson, AZ at Sabino High School for four years, and he was a volunteer assistant at a high school for three years. This will be his 5th year coaching with WCWC.

Coach Steve Bryant was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, IA, which meant wrestling was a must. He started wrestling in 3rd grade and wrestled through high school. In middle school, he was a 3x regional champion and finished those three years undefeated. While in high school, he was a 2x qualifier in the Iowa State tournament. His coaching career began when his son was in kindergarten and started wrestling. He coached in his wrestling club and middle school for 10 years. In 2016, his wife and three kids to Spring Hill, TN. With his kids grown and out of the house, he still had a desire to coach. He found Williamson County Wrestling Club in 2018 and resumed coaching.

Coach Chris Roberts was born and raised in Waterloo, IA the hometown of wrestling legend Dan Gable. He started practicing wrestling in the 4th grade but didn’t compete heavily until 8th grade. Chris started his high school career off to a rough start going 1-16 as a Freshman. That summer Chris started to invest in his wrestling career and attended summer intensive camps at the University of Iowa. His Sophomore year Chris went 21-12 just missing the State tournament by finishing 3rd in Districts. His Junior year he went 27-7 taking 2nd place at the district tournament and finishing 7th at the State Tournament. That summer Chris competed in freestyle wrestling for the first time and finished 2nd place in the Iowa State Freestyle Championships and competed in Fargo ND at the Junior Nationals. 1994-Chris’s senior year he finished the regular season 30-0 ranked 1st in the State of Iowa. He won the District Tournament but fell short of a State title losing in overtime and finished 3rd in State with a season record of 35-1. That summer he competed in Freestyle wrestling tournaments and finished 2nd Place in the Iowa State Freestyle Championships and again competed in Fargo ND at the Junior Nationals. Chris’ accomplishments in wrestling, as well as his good grades earned him a full-tuition scholarship at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. 1995-Chris red-shirted his freshman year. 1996-His sophomore year he started and competed at 167 where he competed in the Big Ten Championships and battled strong improving throughout the season. His Junior year 1997-Chris finished 8th at the Big Ten-(11) Championships at 167. Chris’s Senior year (1998) he was off to a great start at 167 and 158 until he injured his knee, and while rehabbing, he lost his spot at 167. Chris was offered a vacancy at Heavyweight 285 where he competed in the Big Ten Tournament where he battled some very close matches, but fell short of victory. Chris graduated with a BS in Communication Studies in 1998 and earned the coaches “Most Desire Award” that season for his hard work and never give up attitude. In 2012 Chris helped start a wrestling program at Grace Christian Academy in Franklin where he volunteers as an Assistant-Head Coach for the Middle School and High School programs. He has 3 boys William, Andrew, and Leo who all participate at WCWC.

Coach Jason Minor did not start wrestling until Freshman year in high school but by the start of the season had earned a spot on the Varsity wrestling team of Bowie High School in Bowie, Maryland. In his sophomore year was voted in as Captain and held that until graduation. “I was fortunate enough to have awesome coaches that taught me the value of working hard, never giving up and pursuing greatness inside of me to be a champion. By the time I graduated High School I was a 2-time county champion, Region Champion and Runner Up and a 2-time state qualifier I also was able to create a career record of 103-33. I now thoroughly enjoy coaching the kids at WCWC and watching them grow in the sport of wrestling.”

Coach Mark is a husband and father of four who lives in Spring Hill, TN. Coach Mark in new as a wrestling coach but has experience as a defensive backs coach at the high school football and junior high school level. His four children have kept him on the field as a baseball, soccer, and flag football coach. Coach has been a pre-school and elementary school teacher focusing on special education and behavior management. Coach is a member of the Catholic Church of the Nativity and has been humbled by the invitation to assist with the faith-based Williamson County Wrestling Club. Coach is devoted to teaching young athletes to have fun and grow in all areas of their sport.
