Spring Session – 3/19/21

After the COVID challenges of the last 12 months, the WCWC is excited to offer our Spring Session to local athletes in grades 2-12.  We will offer 31 training sessions, running until the end of May.  This training cycle will offer multiple competition opportunities as well as some unique clinic options led by world class instructors.  Of note to the current club members – we held 34 official practices during the competitive season.  This spring session will provide mat time equivalent to almost an entire season for those athletes who decide to participate.  Final schedule:

March 21-May 30th (31 available sessions)

  • Tuesday Night’s at Independence HS from 600–730 pm (3/23, 3/30, 4/6, 4/13, 4/20, 4/27, 5/4, 5/11, 5/18, 5/25)
  • Thursday Night’s at Independence HS from 600-730 pm (3/25, 4/1, 4/8, 4/15, 4/22, 4/29, 5/6, 5/13, 5/20, 5/27)
  • Sunday afternoons at Franklin HS Wrestling Building 200-330 pm (3/21, 3/21, 3/28, 4/11, 4/18, 4/25, 5/2, 5/9, 5/16, 5/23, 5/30)

Practices will be led by Coaches from the Williamson County Club and respected staff from Franklin, and Independence School Systems.  The focus of our spring session will be on Freestyle and some Greco Roman instruction, with an emphasis on how primary Olympic Style techniques and tactics positively effect Folkstyle wrestling.

We will spend time at every practice working on fundamental wrestling skills, specific freestyle tactics, sparring, and live wrestling.  I expect the focus and intensity in the room to be high, and I know that our club athletes will benefit greatly by training along side of some of the better HS wrestlers in the area.

I know many of our club athletes participate in other sports and activities in the spring (mine included), and training availability may be limited.  My advice is to sign up for this session and make as many sessions as possible.  Even one additional workout per week for your athlete can make a significant difference in their performance level in the 21-22 season.  It is no secret that skill development, requires mat time and I am grateful to the FHS and IHS staffs for allowing us the opportunity to train in their facilities again for this cycle.
